What is the Difference Between Bulletproof Windows & Ballistic Windows?

While many customers search for "bulletproof glass" or "bulletproof windows," these terms are actually a misnomer, as no glass is truly bulletproof, as all glass breaks and has its inherent physical limits. Instead, ballistic windows are manufactured to provide varying levels of bullet resistance as tested to a specific bullet caliber and velocity, ranging from handgun resistance as Levels 1,2 and 3 to heavy high velocity rifle resistance of 8, and up to military large caliber level 10. Ray-Bar offers UL752 Level 8 rifle bullet-resistant telescopic window frames designed for ballistic safety applications. These frames feature a two-piece, 2" wide, 16-gauge steel construction with factory-set stops, mitered corners, and Ray-Bar’s proprietary ballistic resistant material on the threat side of the frame. They adjust from 4-1/4" to 8" and can accommodate clear ballistic laminated glass up to 2+" thick, with options for larger sizes.

Available frame materials and finishes include standard 16-gauge steel, 16-gauge 304 stainless steel with a #4 brushed and grained fine finish, and 0.063" 5052-H32 brushed aluminum, or optionally with a clear anodized finish. It's essential that the bullet-resistant rating of the frame matches the surrounding wall or partition.

Window Frames for Handgun Resistant Glass

Ray-Bars ballistic window frames easily adjust from 4-1/4" to 8" and are factory fitted with Ray-Nar laminated ballistic glass ranging from 1" to 1-1/4" thick, with options for special applications , options and larger sizes upon request.

Available materials include standard 16-gauge steel, 16-gauge 304 stainless steel with a #4 brushed grained finish, and 0.063" 5052-H32 brushed aluminum finish. The bullet-resistant rating of the frame should always be ordered by the customer to match the same protection level of the surrounding wall or partition, and it is important for customers to verify the required ballistic protection level required before ordering.
